Kim (Yara’s BFF) shares her 3 go-to work looks
work

Dress for success! Are you prepared to make that terrific fashion impression at work? Kim van Noord (aka Yara’s partner in crime, wine & style) works as a freelance art director and graphic designer for magazines like Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar and Linda. She definitely knows the works when it comes to non-boring office fashion.

What do you need from a perfect work outfit?
Kim: ‘I’m a total sucker for the biggest cliche in the world: I want to dress French. I religiously submerge myself in croissants, whether it’s a tattoo, some croissant-style jewelry or the real deal. My credo? A day without croissants is a day wasted. My perfect work outfit needs a bit je ne sais quoi. You can hardly go wrong with a Breton striped shirt. I like to mix classic styles with funky elements, without looking too polished. It’s like stepping out of Chloé advert, but with messy hair.’

Do you have a go-to outfit for an important day at work?
Kim: ‘When in doubt, wear denim. That’s what I do. Whether it’s a skirt, jeans or dungarees. Add a crispy white t-shirt and some slingbacks and you’re ready to rock. Denim is always a winner.’

Have you ever rewarded yourself with a work look? And if that’s the case: why?
Kim: ‘My life is like a rewarding system that got out of hand quite badly. ‘Survived the dentist? It’s okay to buy a Balenciaga bag.’ I use this theory in my work life too. After 3 years of hard work as a freelance art director and graphic designer, I decided I couldn’t bring my laptop in canvas totes anymore. I bought myself a Mulberry Bayswater in ‘Camomile’ yellow. It was the ultimate reward for my work.’

How do you choose your work outfit?
Kim: ‘I’m a born shoe hoarder, so I start off with the shoes. I dress from bottom to top. My shoes reflect my personality: happy Dolce daisies, funky Gucci loafers, velvet and strass stones… Shine bright! I like to wear jeans on top and usually, I repeat a lot but have a lot of mix-and-match ability too. Sounds boring, but I love the blasé way of dressing.’

Any tips & tricks for women who are out of office outfit ideas?
Kim: ‘Be playful. Don’t take yourself too seriously and don’t put too much pressure on a ‘perfect’ work look. Also: gain inspiration from the greats. Go on Pinterest and add cool styles on your boards. Jane Birkin & Alexa Chung are greatly represented on my boards!’
