Squeezed between a parking garage and the quay overlooking a canal, you’ll find Waterkant, a busy little spot where ice cold beers and great Surinamese finger food are served. They have a huge terrace (with multiple picnic tables and cozy light bulbs), perfect for long hot summer nights. Make sure to come in early on Fridays, it gets busy.

2. Hanneke’s Boom
Cool water front bar, which genuinely feels like the out-of-the-way location, but it’s only a ten minutes walk from Amsterdam central station. Nearly every local knows Hanneke’s Boom is the go-to for an after work drink when the sun’s out – yes, they do have a huge terrace. Skip this place if you’re looking for a relaxed, quiet spot. Make sure to expect a very buzzing, funky, busy cafe and please keep in mind: you have to order at the bar.

3. Walter’s – The Walter Woodbury Bar
Looking for a spot that serves great cocktails and bar food in the east of Amsterdam? Make sure to drop by Walter’s. Ranging from Moscow Mule’s to pita’s, steaks and bitterballen: Walter’s serves everything you’re craving for after a long day of hard work.

4. Louie Louie
Another cool gem in east-town: Louie Louie. And yes, we’ve written about this beautiful place before (as it’s a great place for coffee too). Make sure to try Louie Louie’s sangria, considered as one of the best in town. Also: their snacks are to die for. Ranging from chili cheese fries to Manchego and barbecue pork ribs. Let the good times roll!

5. TonTon Club West
Up for a treat? Make sure to drop by TonTon Club West sometime. They’ve got all you need to meet your after work needs. Great interior (and a huge terrace), friendly staff, very tasty Japanese infused finger food and… retro games! Catch up with coworkers and get smashed up playing a dance revolution video game at the same time. Whatever you do, top it off with a boozy milkshake.

6. Rose’s Cantina
The spectacular cocktails at Rose’s Cantina are a great way to mark the weekend as it’s such good spot for some after work drinks in the city center. This cool, hip industrial looking space serves modern Latian American food & cocktails. Some quesadilla, nachos, and tequila por favor!

Loved by many working in the nearby area (like almost every editor from ELLE & Bazaar magazine), Herengracht makes a great spot for after work drinks. Apart from the modern restaurant itself, they also offer got a sunny terrace overlooking the canal and a dreamy garden with a large seating area to fit you and all your colleagues.

8. De Ebeling
Loved by many, disliked by some. Yes, De Ebeling is a great place for after work drinks. The downside: everyone knows it a great place for after work drinks. Expect it to be crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. Won’t disappoint if you’re prepared. Too busy? Café Helmers (Eerste Helmersstraat 59) is just a 1-minute walk away.

9. Rum Barrel
Who doesn’t like cocktails? Meet Rum Barrel, a Caribbean infused cozy place in the East of Amsterdam. Expect Tiki-style cocktails, Carribean vibes and great shared food (I’d go for those dirty duck spring rolls). There’s rum for everyone.

10. Tuin 10
Yes, Tuin 10 doesn’t look much from the outside. Don’t let that put you off. It’s a wonderful little place in de Jordaan area. It’s full of locals, it’s vibrant and it’s definitely no-nonsense. Great burgers (also vegetarian options), snacks, and drinks. The fries are hand cut and the mayonnaise homemade. What more do you need?
