Oh, boy. It’s summertime! I don’t know about you, but when the sun’s out, I feel the urge to grab my stuff and spend time outdoors straight away. I want to go on adventures. Find new happy places. Get inspired by whatsoever.
Where to start? Well, the whole team pitched their favorite to-do’s this season in The Netherlands and I added some of my faves as well. This season is bursting with cultural activities. I hope you will enjoy them as much as we will and hope to see you around at one of these activities this summer!

Did you know Eindhoven is Yara’s and Emma’s original hometown? A good reason to visit Eindhoven this summer: Natlab Buitenfilm is probably the best place to see open-air movies in July and August. All movies are free of charge. Be on time to secure yourself of the best seat or bring your own chair! And while you’re there, make sure to drop by Onder de Leidingenstraat, too.

What happens when you take in big-city daily life with the eye of a small town girl? Journalist and documentary photographer Charlotte van Drimmelen approaches cities like Amsterdam, Beijing and more with an eye full of awe. Combining color, graphic value and anti-fashion, the photos create a world of contrasts: the extravagant, the homeless, the outcast, the ritual and the abnormal all in one. Free entrance!

De Parade is a traveling theater festival extravaganza loved by many. The festival travels from Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht to Amsterdam and offers over eighty theater and free music performances in café Correct and Hotel Vilé each night. Make sure to come in hungry, the food line-up is to die for. Performances that are suitable for non-Duch speakers are indicated with the language no problem logo.

Steve McCurry, the adventurous photographer behind the world famous Afgan girl image (you know it directly when you see it), exposes his work (now – September 10) in Kunsthal Helmond.

The lovely British singer-songwriter is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her debut album, Made Of Bricks, home to hit singles as Foundations and Mouthwash, with a grande tour. She’ll play in Amsterdam (August 21) too!

Ever been to the Isle of Pampus? Make sure to pay the island a visit during Proef Pampus (Juy 15-16). Ferries will sail all day from IJburg. Pampus will be transformed into one big festival with the best food, local drinks, and music. Get your tickets on time!

Enjoy 11 hot summer days and nights (August 3 – Augustus 11) during the 33rd edition of Theaterfestival Boulevard in the city center of Den Bosch. Expect cutting edge theater, live music, and heaps of fun.

Definitely a must-do this summer: visit museum Voorlinden. It’s been on our wishlists for ages. Rodney Grahams exposition ‘That’s not me’ is on display until September 17. With a sense of humor, he constantly questions his own identity and asks himself: what does it mean to be an artist today?

Het grote sangriafeest
¡Ay, caramba! it’s sangria time! De Vergulden Eenhoorn hosts one of the biggest sangria parties in Amsterdam this summer (July 7-8). Relax in the garden, dance to the music, enjoy the smokey bbq and don’t worry: there’s enough sangria for everybody.

Vondel Openlucht Theater
Did you know the Vondelpark theater in Amsterdam hosts free performances on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays whole summer long? There are dance performances on Fridays, cabaret en comedy on Saturdays and there’s a hell lot of bands playing too. Some highlights: Paul de Munnik, Amsterdamdelics ft. Def P (Osdorp Posse), Henry van Loon, Mister and Mississippi, Word cinema, rollerskate jam, Tolls, Yentl & De Boer and Indian Askin.

Food truck festival Trek
TREK is a traveling food truck festival which visits nine big Dutch cities during summer. Still on the list: > Den Bosch (July 6-9)

Fancy a staycation? Discover Zeeland Nazomerfestival, a multiday festival (August 22 – September 2) in in Middelburg, Tholen and Sas van Gent. Expect theater and live music performances by bands like DI-RECT, Haeven, Lucas Hamming and Diggy Dex.

Looking for the ultimate Gay Pride (August 5) afterparty? Look no further: Roest is the place to be. They host a George Michael tribute in loving memory of the singer. 22:00 – 3:00, free entrance.
