Latte and laptops: COTTONCAKE

It’s coffee & Wi-Fi time! Switching up where you work every now and then can give you lots of bright ideas and perhaps even new contacts. Another plus: all the lattes you want without so much as having to walk ten feet. In Latte & laptops we’re bringing you the Wi-Fi friendly work spaces all over Amsterdam.

Name: COTTONCAKE
Second up is COTTONCAKE (you can find the first post here). This hip hangout arose from a passion for travelling and discovering. You can sip cappuccinos with perfect froth, shop a small selection of edgy and slightly boho brands and get yourself some delicious organic treats or a high tea.

1. What’s the interior and atmosphere like?
This place is Instagram ready: white, spacious, stylish. A brick wall, wooden floors, metal racks and endless supplies of daylight, making that latte art easy to capture. It’s easy to see that everything at COTTONCAKE is orchestrated with love and care. The owners don’t want to settle for ‘just another product’, they constantly search for things that give you that love-at-first-sight-feeling by brands like OneTeaspoon, Monocrafft and Samsoe & Samsoe. Their strategy worked, because team CHAPTER FRIDAY is head over heels.

2. How is the coffee?
Good coffee, friendly staff and a peaceful atmosphere are crucial factors for a work spot that’s not actually your office. If any of these qualities are off, chances are you’ll never return. Time for the test: a small cappuccino. It looked gorgeous, first and foremost, (leaf latte art!), the foam was nice and frothy and the coffee tasted fine and not too strong. We’d definitely be up for some more of those.

3. Could you get work done here?
It depends on the type of work you want to do. There isn’t a whole lot of place to sit – but a plus side of that is that there won’t be as much moving around to distract you. COTTONCAKE has a light-hearted, girly vibe going on, so rather than going there for business meetings or to work on tight deadlines it’s is more suited to daydream and brainstorm on your own. Oh, and a big, big bonus: you can go shopping in the same space on your well deserved break. Score!

4. Where is it?
COTTONCAKE is located on the 1e van der Helststraat 76-hs in Amsterdam and is open between 10.00 – 18.30 on weekdays, from 10.00 – 18:00 on Saturday and from 11:30 – 18:00 on Sundays.
