It seems that whenever I visit new places, I always bump into special and sweet people. Which ultimately makes me want to stay (remember my ‘I decided not to go home from LA’-post?) …or at least pick their brain for the best spots. When I took a trip to Ibiza last week, I ran into renowned Dutch fashion stylist Renu Kashyap at adorable garden restaurant La Paloma. A few years back, she took a leap of faith and moved her work and family to this beautiful Spanish island. They now successfully rent out their cosy and stunning villa to others that are looking for adventure.
LIFE SWAPS WITH TIMBERLAND
I should say I’m a sucker for people changing their lives. It’s actually on my bucket list to swap lives with someone for a day! So me and my team instantly got curious about the adventurous Life Swaps project that shoe brand Timberland set up and that takes place now. Four creative big names from major European cities will trade lives for a weekend and you can follow every step in fun videos. In the video you’ll see that it means more than just a citytrip; it’s about taking over someone’s life, friends, families, hobbies and home.
YARA’S SHORT INSIDERS GUIDE TO IBIZA
Since taking on an entirely new identity might be a bit tricky - me and Timberland teamed up for a series of 3 city stories packed with hotspots. So you at least get to experience life as a local ;) The first stop on this journey is Ibiza!
Shopping
Sluiz
This is a huge warehouse is one of a kind and sells everything you could ever imagine needing or wanting in and around your house. This includes, but is not limited to: multicolored fur coats by Manish Arora, vintage steel lockers, pastel colored pasta, sombreros, vibrating ducks… Even parking is a treat with signs like ‘Only big asses’ (my favorite as you could tell) and ‘Only bitches’.
Eating
La Paloma
This is my personal favorite and exactly how I envisioned an Ibiza garden restaurant. Underneath trees with hundreds of lights, you can enjoy fresh juices and healthy, fresh food. Hours are easily spent at this spot, because of it’s location and chill atmosphere.
Sacca
When you have an award winning chef to rule the kitchen, the food is bound to be good. This recent addition to the Ibiza kitchen is one of a kind, with high-end Asian bites, a sushi bar and artsy cocktails (blueberry and ginger Martini anyone?).
Can guimo
A tiny lunch spot where they serve organic products and delicious salads, with a complimentary neighborhood vibe.
Beaching
Sunset Ashram
To watch the sun set in the sea, this is quite the place. Located on a cliff, surrounded by nothing but the beach of Calla Comte, Ashram provides you with the ultimate chill spot to relax after a long day of hanging at the shore line.
Aigues Blanques
Clear blue seas, white sand… what more could one wish for? (Someone rubbing in tanning oil, perhaps, but that’s about it). This small beach spot features a mix of locals and just a handful of tourists, which is usually a good sigh. Walk to the end of the beach strip on the right for an authentic beach bar with good music.
Cala d’hort
This is the most charming beach spot, if you ask me and my friend Kim (it’s her and her butt at Cala d’hort in the top left polaroid). A tiny, deserted bay with a breathtaking view over the ocean and the impressive rock island of Es Vedrá and just a few beach beds lined up right by the water.
P.S. In the next edition I’ll be sharing an updated list of my favorite hotspots in Amsterdam!
Great travel tips, will bookmark this post!
