Weekend list: what to do in Amsterdam before summer’s over
CHAPTER FRIDAY

How do you get the most out of your weekends? Simple: you plan fun things to do, and you’ll make some memories on those last hot, sweaty and fun summer nights. Here are five things you have to see before summer’s over:

New for now - Rijksmuseum
We love magazines: they are a pleasant and sometimes necessary escape from our everyday lives. But how did the world go round when they did not yet exist? People showed the latest fashion in illustrations. They showed beautifully coloured designs in the latest fashion, with a little description about the clothes. The Rijksmuseum digitalized a lot of different illustrations that are seen as the forerunner of the fashion magazine we know today.

Happinez festival
At school, we all had lessons in geometry, biology and science. But we never had a teacher who taught us lessons in life. At the Happinez festival, you can catch up and listen to big speakers like Mark Nepo, Mallika Chopra and Paul de Blot, who will share the insights and spiritual lessons they’ve learned. You can also show your yoga moves with Tara Styles or Goedele Leyssen, and eat some healthy raw chocolate. Because our main goal in live should be achieving happiness, so why don’t we?
The Happinez festival is held on 11, 12 and 13 September

World of food
What is a summer in the city without discovering some new and exciting places to eat? The brand new World of food is definitely worth the visit: in an old parking garage in the south-east of Amsterdam it presents food from all kinds of different continents. You can eat at a tandoor with Pakistan barbecue, a Thai curry, vegan Egyptian, Antillean pastries and Surinam soup. You don’t have to worry about limited seating: the place has room for approximately a thousand people, and the price of the dishes is around ten euro’s.

TonTon club
We like games and we like food, thus we love the TonTon club. This restaurant/arcade hall combines the best of both worlds. The place is filled with old arcade games, and you can eat delicious taco’s, drink bubble tea cocktails and eat hot dogs that will make all other buns with sausages fade in comparison. It has two locations, one in the red light district and one at the Westergasterrein.

Parade Amsterdam
This weekend is your very last chance to visit the Parade in Amsterdam, and this traveling theatre show is definitely worth your time. You can fly around in the carousel where two very big guys are very willing to give you a push and make you go a bit higher, make your own mini-pancakes (called ‘poffertjes’ in Dutch) and visit a performance or two so you can even say you’ve done something cultural.

Open air cinema Onder de boom
Let’s go to the movies! And in the summertime, what is better then watching a movie outside? The movie starts when the evening is just setting in and you can cuddle up under a blanket, with the sky as your roof and the warm summery air filling your nostrils. At Onder de boom in the famous Amsterdam Vondelpark, you can go see old movies from the eighties or nineties (sometimes older). So gather some friends, bring some popcorn and make some memories!
Movies are shown in ‘t Blauwe Theehuis in het Vondelpark, entrance is free.

Ik zou eigenlijk dit weekend naar Amsterdam gaan, maar daar is echter niets van gekomen! Jammer! Had die tentoonstelling in het rijks graag willen zien!

Love this list! There’s nothing better than food and festivals before the end of summer.
