Blog class: 27 summer content ideas for your lifestyle blog
CHAPTER FRIDAY

It’s the height of summer! That time when living is easy and work can be hard. With temperatures rising, your brain might decide to take a break as well. What always gets us going at Chapter Friday when we’re feeling less inspired (or distracted by thoughts of ice cream and hammocks), is a list of basic ideas that can be reused according to theme or season. Just like these other handy tips for how to keep your blog running while you’re on holiday.

Whether your blog is a part of your business, or you’re simply connecting with other people for fun, it’s good to have a content plan lined up. Luckily, here are plenty of ways to create summer-friendly blog content that will tap into your readers’ excitement about the season. But in case you feel a little stuck and could use a push in the right direction, we’ve listed 27 exciting summer content ideas for you.

1. Five dreamy destinations anywhere in the world
One of the most fun things to do is planning your summer holiday, so why not share this joy with others? Share five places you would love to visit and why.

2. Share a special summer memory
Share a fond summer memory and an (old) picture with your readers and give them a glimpse of your past.

3. Hotspots for when it’s too hot to handle
Spill your favourite places for when it is almost unbearably hot. A terrace in the shade, a little garden restaurant, a lemonade stand, a hidden (city) beach or a playground for kids; whatever suits your readers interests.

4. The best summery flat lays by your favourite style bloggers
What spells blue skies and hot temperatures better than a flat lay for a warm day? Select a pair of your favourite summer shoes, accessories and beach essentials to create a summery flat lay, or share the ones by your fave style bloggers. Chapter Friday is a big fan of Margaret Zhang’s.

5. One week ice cream diet
When you say summer, you say ice cream. Why not embark on a summer experiment? Write a blog post about the best diet there is: an ice cream diet – also known as legitimate excuse to eat ice cream every day.

6. Travel Instagrammers to follow
If there is anything that inspires you to travel, it is the accounts of Instagrammers who are always on go. They take the most beautiful pictures and discover original destinations. It’s like taking a holiday through someone else’s eyes!

7. New films you must see this summer
The movies are the great place to hide out when it is searing hot outside. It is cool, dark and mostly empty and there’s popcorn involved. Make a list of your favourite summer movies that are yet to come out.

8. Documenting a road trip with your friend
You know your life is heading in the right direction when you get to go on a road trip with a friend, write about it and work on building your online empire at the same time. A brilliant idea for a blog post, no? And your readers will get to relate to your friendship.

9. Anything flamingo printed to shop now
Summer and pineapples/flamingos/palm trees are like beaches and ice cream: pretty much inseparable. Search the web and your favourite online stores to create a pineapple or flamingo themed shopping.

10. How to put together a bar cart
A group of close friends and cocktails are the main ingredients for a good night. What better way to serve these ice-cold alcoholic beverages than with your very own bar cart? Write a post about how you (would) put together your very own, very grown up bar cart.

11. Wearing shorts to work three different ways
When the weather is hot, it can be challenging to dress for work appropriately. Show your readers three different ways to style them and you have enough content to last you for, well, three days.

12. Make your own popsicles
Popsicles are probably the nicest thing to eat when it’s hot, so why not make them for your blog? If you fill them with edible flowers, or swirl some yoghurt in there, they make for unbelievably pretty pictures.

13. Swimwear brands to check out
Bikini’s baby! The web is overflowing with cool swimwear labels - mostly Aussie based - so if your blog is style oriented, your readers might be curious.

14. Boho style icons
They are the types of persons you write books about: free at heart and spirit, always in for new adventures. List your favourite bohemian style icons.

15. The best summer in the city activities
Where is the best party? That is the question. List up the coolest festivals, the most exciting beach parties and movie nights in the open air.

16. Flirting tips for some summer love
Summer is the time to spike up the romance, so don’t let too many nights pass without telling your secret sweetheart how you really feel. Hand out some tips to enhance your flirting skills and help your readers have the summer fling of their lives.

17. Shoot streetstyle at the park
Want to get active at the park? You might just as well go looking for some cute outfits to photograph. Ask a summer related question and just like that, an inspiration post is born!

18. Discussion about women and body hair
Even though most of us wouldn’t confess it if their pinky finger depended on it, women have hair in unwanted places. After Miley Cirus had the guts to dye her armpit hair bright pink, the discussion about hair removal got as intense as it once did in the seventies. Write an opinionated article on body hair, and you’ll get response, guaranteed.

19. Summer DIY with colourful pompons
What is not to love about an easy DIY? All you need to create a happy accessory to carry your bikinis and towels in is a couple of colourful pompons, a simple beach bag (preferably a woven one) and needle and thread.

20. A shopping of the coolest pool inflatables
What is summer life without proper pool inflatables? We’re talking pretzels, doughnuts, swans and flamingo’s. Create a shopping page to guide your readers to the most fun ones.

21. Make a summer scrapbook
Collect all your summer memories to create a summer scrapbook – you know, like you used to do when you were fourteen.

22. Protect your skin from the sun – myths unravelled and beauty tips revealed
Is aftersun really a must? And how do you pick the right factor of protection? Write an article about summer skin rituals or the biggest myths.

23. Messy beach hair inspiration
The wind, salt and sun will do wonders for beach hair without the slightest effort on your part. In this big inspiration post you collect the most beautiful beach hair pictures you can find.

24. Interviews in a minivan
What better place to hold summer interviews than in a Volkswagen minivan? Make it a short (video) series with adventurous questions.

25. Go looking for the hottest surf dude
Set a challenge to find the hottest surf dude you can find for an interview on your blog. Go for a super straightforward conversation, even if you have to say things that make your heart beat fast and your legs shake.

26. Balcony makeover
Your balcony or garden is a second home in summer, so it is worth it to give it some time, love and care. Buy some pretty cushions, plants and furniture, snap some pictures and blog about it.

27. Summer clean out: collecting clothes for charity
To really properly enjoy your summer wardrobe, get rid of the items you don’t wear anymore. Select everything that is broken, old, ill-fitted, or just not your style anymore and donate everything that still looks good to charity.

Simply copy and paste a few of these ideas into your content calendar and put your personal twist on them to make them your own. We’d love to hear which post you’d be most excited to write!

Can you write about this http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/08/11/why-the-olsen-twins-are-getting-sued-by-overworked-interns.html ?

It fits in your career section. And it needs more attention. It happens too often in the fashion industry.

    Thanks!

    Wat een leuke ideeën allemaal!

Great ideas! Especially the ice cream diet. Honestly, I think we’re all so ‘diet’ crazed, always on the hunt for the new “it” food - that trying any diet seems like a great way to generate some content. People are fascinated by food in all forms. Hope you’re all having a fab summer!

Love, love, love the minivan idea! You could totally transform that into a fall & winter series too. Or use just a simple backdrop

Absolutely! Most of these you could constantly re-use according to occasion or season :)

Very helpful when you’re in need of an inspiration boost.

    Great to hear Lara :)
