Yara’s Summer Festival Gear Guide
festival1

When it comes to packing for festivals, the most important thing is to bring your outdoor lifesavers while keeping your bag as light as possible. Packing smart also means being prepared for whatever your probably going to face (like a burning hot sun and missing toilet paper - don’t you just love being a girl…;)).

So with years of fun festival experience below our belt - and being in the midst of the festival season - I put together an outdoor gear guide with the basics (for me) for a flawless festival day. So let’s run through this one by one:

1. Sunblock. An absolute necessity if you’re out all day enjoying the sun. Have fun, but just be safe.

2. A drink. Bring a small bottle of water, coconut juice, or your favorite soda. Anything to keep you hydrated with all that wild dancing.

3. Sunglasses. The finishing touch to your festival look, clearly, and a fun flirting tool to secretly spy on guys you fancy.

4. Something to keep you warm. A beanie takes up hardly any space, and it’s a great solution in case you get cold - as you lose most heat through your head. It’s not as heavy as lugging around a cardigan or a jacket, and you probably look cute too.

5. Tissues. Same arguments: you never know where the day takes you and there are plenty of issues to resolve with tissues.

6. Lip balm. To create smooth, kissable lips or to salve sunburnt skin, a neutral balm like Kiehls or Eight Hour Cream always comes in handy.

7. Minimal makeup items. Yes for multifunctional products! This lip stain that also works on your cheeks and is the perfect lightweight solution to a pretty face day round.

8. Hand sanitizer. To clean up before eating - because we all know festivals are pretty much about snacks - and to feel fresh throughout the day.

9. Band aids. Because you never know what accidents you might run into, or play the hero of to date with these awesomely printed mandates.

10. Earplugs. In case the loudness gets to you, or if you want to stand right in front of the DJ without the crazy noise, earplugs are your pals.

11. A small pouch. To keep your cash, cards, coins and keys all in one place.

12. Chewing gum. For a little sugar boost or, you know, in case your flirting tactics worked out.

13. A camera and a phone… or two in one! In between all the dancing, one of the things I love to do is take random snapshots, selfies, record videos of our favorite performances, or Shazam bands that I discover at the scene. My new tech partner in crime for summer is without a doubt this Samsung Galaxy K Zoom smartphone with a rather impressive lens built in the back. I love that it’s a phone and a high quality camera in one - without the extra weight. (Any invention that makes our bags lighter is a winner!)

Some features that stand out? An automatic selfie function and a 10x zoom that helps you capture the show, even when you’re enjoying a concert from afar. The battery safe mode will keep your phone alive for days.

Of course you don’t really need anything besides great company and good music on a festival, but I feel best when I’m a little geared up, haha! And everything comes in miniature packages and fits right into a small bucket bag. Do you agree with my packing strategy, and what 3 items do you always make sure to put in your festival bag?

I do not want to be rude, but I think I have read this article before on thischicksgotstyle.. However, I love your website anyway

Hi Jane, thank you for your comment! This article was published a few weeks ago (in june) before it’s scheduling date. As a loyal reader, I guess you’ve seen it before :)

Earplugs aren’t glamorous at all but they are SO IMPORTANT for festivals, and frankly, nobody cares if someone else is wearing earplugs or not! Great list and lovely photos by the way!

Hey, I love your website, and I say this with love, but lately I’ve been noticing heaps of spelling mistakes. I get that English isn’t your mothertongue, but I’m just saying…

Hope you don’t take this the wrong way! x

Hi! Not at all. One of the reasons is that I (Yara) dictate my articles because RSI means I’m not allowed to type at the moment. There are some weeeeird sentences that come up that way, but I try to alter them all. I appreciate you alerting me to whatever you find in terms of errors and will happily alter it :)

There is one in number 12: it should be “your” instead of “you’re” flirting tactics. Hope you’ll get better soon!

    Thanks Paulien! :) I hope so too…

Love the photos and the Samsung looks very nice! x

Awesome article! It’s a tad late for me though; I went to a festival two days ago, haha. Thanks for sharing these tips anyway, I might need them again (: X

Nice, which ones did you visit? Festival tips never go out of style so I hope they help next season ;)

Such a great post my dear!
    Thanks for this :)
