Yara’s 25 random questions tag

Today in Yara’s corner, I’m answering a 25 random questions tag, and in the comments it’s your turn. So get to know me a bit better, and I learn a little more about my readers and your personalities, dreams and funny habits. So I’m asking you to pick 5 of these questions and answer those for yourself in the comments. This should be fun! ;)

1. What is one of your biggest dreams?
A lifelong dream has been to live in America for a few months. Last January I flew to Los Angeles for a one week work trip and I fell for the city so much that I impulsively decided to stay and live for five weeks (I kept a daily LA diary here). I can’t wait to settle in LA or New York for a bit longer.

2. Name three things that are physically close to you.
My Moleskine notebook, peonies (my favorite flowers), and a box of caramel chocolates. Busted!

3. What’s an ideal Sunday for you?
Sleeping in until eleven, having a big brunch somewhere with friends (where we order everything from pancakes to eggs to avocado toast, smoothies, lattes and some champagne). Followed by some downtime at my apartment to chill and organize, followed by an open air cinema visit (wouldn’t that be awesome?) or some other spontaneous plan.

4. Do you drive? If so have you crashed?
Oh man. I’m a bad driver, I won’t even deny it. Even riding my bike is a constant struggle, and I’ve had some near death moments car wise. Especially in LA, that one time I ended up on the wrong side of the road after crossing the street. Still alive though!

5. What time did you wake up this morning?
At 8, so that’s allright. I’m a morning person by no means.

6. What’s one thing in your closet that you cannot live without?
My cut out biker boots by Balenciaga. They work with everything!

7. What was the last movie you saw?
The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson.

8. What does your last text message say?
‘Perfect, see you tomorrow’ – about a work meeting.

9. Something physical that stands out?
I have nine tiny, delicate ear piercings. All in silver, gold and rose gold, with tiny chains and real diamonds. Most are from Body Electric in Los Angeles and from New York Adorned in New York. You can see some of them here and here.

10. Have you ever been to a different country?
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot. First as a kid, my parents would take us to a country for a month each year – from Thailand to the US to India, Indonesia or China. We’d soak up the culture and get together as a family. It planted a seed for traveling and for my work I get to fly around the world for events and Fashion Weeks in New York, Paris, Londen and such.

11. Do you like sushi?
Is that an actual question? California rolls are my life.

12. What’s a song you secretly love to blast and belt out when you’re alone?
‘All that matters’ and ‘One life’ by Justin Bieber. His latest album is kind of awesome. There. I said it.

13. Have you ever taken medication to help you fall asleep faster?
Guilty as charged. I don’t want to fall for sleeping pills as I think I will be codependent instantly. But I have taken pain medication to doze off, just something like asprin. Not a good thing, and don’t try it at home.

14. How many siblings do you have?
A twin brother named Milan. He’s a total gem. We understand each other without words, always have the best time and he supports me in everything. Love that guy.

15. How would you describe your style?
I’d say it’s clean with a feminine twist. So I’d think of a slip dress with biker boots. Or leather skinnies with a simple t-shirt. Or black skinny denim with a pretty top and heels.

16. How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
Turning 25 on June 7th.

17. Do you wear contacts or glasses?
I should. Constantly forget that I need to wear glasses.

18. Do you color your hair?
Yep. I love to play around a bit, always keeping it subtle. But as you know, I recently decided to go platinum. A fun experiment, but it’s a lot of work to keep up a look like this.

19. Tell me something you are planning to do today.
Work. It’s always work! Followed by drinks in town with a friend.

20. What’s the drink you always order at Starbucks?
A caramel frappucino is what Starbucks excels in. At other places I’ll get a soy latte. Take-out coffee is my little luxury treat.

21. What did you want to be when you were little?
As a ten-year-old I was reading my mom’s ELLE and vowed to myself to be a part of a magazine team one day. I made it my mission, worked hard and landed a job at ELLE magazine at 21 as a writer, before I had even graduated. It’s one of the things I’m really proud of as it shows that with hard work and clear goals, a lot is possible.

22. What’s a beauty rule you preach, but never actually practice?
Not touching your face. I run my hands through my hair and rub my eyes or rest my face on my hands all day. Nice way to spread some germs, huh.

23. Have you ever had an all-nighter?
O hell yes. Just read this article about the first 48 hours of CHAPTER FRIDAY as evidence. I’m a total night owl. The times I’ve worked until five in the morning – tiny eyes, near breakdown and about to burst out in screaming – can’t be counted on my hands and toes. For parties I’ve done the same but in a happier manner. Same for sleepovers with my friends. Or boys.

24. Can you taste the difference between Pepsi and Coke?
I think I do. Maybe it’s one of those skills I think I have but actually don’t. Like the ability to drive, or to see without glasses.

25. What quote/phrase do you live your life by?
Enjoy it, because it’s happening now. It’s important to me to let go a bit and enjoy the process, not just the outcome (which is always different than you could have imagined – by the way). This applies to everything, from dating to work to personal issues to discovering your style. Go with the flow and enjoy while you’re making magic happen!

I love this tag :) I love your quote that you live by :)
I answered these questions for my very first blog post:
    http://adelebelham.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/25-questions.html

    Jill

Heel erg leuk om te lezen! En trouwens nog van harte gefeliciteerd met deze nieuwe vorm van bloggen!

    Karyna Naho

I really love the new direction of the blog. Go Yara!!

    1. What is one of your biggest dreams?
To travel, travel, travel. I’d like to go abroad and really absorb different cultures. I want to learn about different continents, lifestyles, cuisines and would love to learn different languages. Also, after travelling to LA last summer I would love to live and work there for a year. A girl can dream right.

    6. What’s one thing in your closet that you cannot live without?
I cannot live without my white high top converses. I’ve been reaching for them a lot since the weather has gotten warmer. They seem to go with everything! (At least I think they do haha)

    12. What’s a song you secretly love to blast and belt out when you’re alone?
I’m totally with you with Justin Bieber’s new album (sadly guilty!) I’ve been hooked on all that matters and swap it out.

    16. How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
I’m turning 20 this September. The thought of this makes me want to cry :(

    23. Have you ever had an all-nighter?
I’m in my first year of university studying architecture and have had more all-nighters in a month than I had throughout the whole of my secondary and sixth form education.

Love that you guys are sharing your items!

First I would just like to say that I am LOVING this new site! It’s totally still your style but the content has just catapulted and I love it!

    1) What is one of your biggest dreams? To live in London for a year (or more!). I studied abroad in London in college and I have always told myself that I would go back and live there one day! It’s going to take some serious dedication to make this one come true.

    4) Do you drive? Have you ever crashed? Yes, I drive! I have never crashed but I did have a near-fatal accident a couple of weeks ago…. one of my back tires flew off while I was on the freeway and my car spun out of control & I lost control of the wheel. It’s a miracle in itself that I didn’t hit anything or anyone, and that I lived to tell the tale. Scariest moment of my entire life & it took a while, but I like driving again. Crazy!

    6) What’s one item in your closet you can’t live without? I have this Michael Kors red striped dress that I am obsessed with. It’s the most comfortable thing in the entire world and always manages to look good.

    21) What did you want to be when you were little? An engineer. Haha my dad is an engineer and I wanted to be just like him. Once I realized that programming was just not for me, those dreams changed!

    24) Can you taste the difference between Pepsi and Coke? I actually don’t drink soda!

    5. What time did you wake up this morning?
6:30AM and I’m still trying to figurē out if I’m awake or sleepwalking (not a morning person)

    6. What’s one thing in your closet that you cannot live without?
My scarf. I basically live in it and wear it with everything (still cold over here)

    10. Have you ever been to a different country?
I’ve been to couple in Europe, but I lived in UK for almost a year (not there any more) and recently I’ve started to miss it like every day.

    12. What’s a song you secretly love to blast and belt out when you’re alone?
Anything Britney. And I still know all the words to all of her songs even though I haven’t listened to her for ages.

    25. What quote/phrase do you live your life by?
I have two: „Don’t just be another brick in the wall” & „If today were the last day of your life, would you want to do what you are about to do today?”. I think there is something very bold about them both that shake me up a little when I’m getting fustrated or off my way.

Love that last phrase to live by :)

Always cool to get to know the bloggers you follow a bit better…
As for me I could have the same answer as you in number 1 (living in America for a longer amount of time than just a holiday – preferably New York City in a real cool loft apartment), 5, 16 (in November though but 25), 22 (and realized I was doing it as I read the post) and 24 – I’m sure I can taste the difference… Between Coca Cola light, zero and Pepsi Max as well :) And I just found out I needed glasses as well, bought some but always forget to put them on – like right now…
    Have a nice day :)

Loved this post! Great to get to know you a bit better. :)

    2. Name three things that are physically close to you.
Handbag, Chai Tea Latte (Starbucks of course-lol), and scented oil.

    11. Do you like sushi?
I LOVE sushi! I usually have the spider roll (spicy) and the California roll.

    19. Tell me something you are planning to do today.
Work, Workout, Finish up an upcoming post (blog), Catch up on the t.v. show “Suits”, then relax with a glass of red wine.

    20. What’s the drink you always order at Starbucks? Chai Tea latte, but on my cheat day I get caramel latte (yummy).

    25. What quote/phrase do you live your life by?
I will never forget Oscar Wilde’s quote, “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken”. This helped me appreciate my differences.

    19. I’m going to visit my aunt later. :) And try write a new blog post.
    22. I’m the same, touching my face, I’m so so bad for it. I give out to myself while I’m doing it but don’t stop.
    23. I can safely say I’ve done an all nighter, let’s judt say I get a bit crazy.
    24. I don’t understand how people can’t tell the difference.
    25. “Everything happens for a reason” this simple quote gets me through every day. But in the end I truely believe even the bad things your life happen for a reason. :)

Oh I love your new website (design, content, EVERYTHING) and this idea! Big inspiration as always, Yara, thx!

    1. What is one of your biggest dreams?
Since my year abroad in France (major love!) my dream shifted a little from being a kickass publisher/author to see other countries, travel the world and soak up other cultures. Trying to combine these though with a blog – but I really need to kick my a*$&! more to actually blog more. (-> lazy girl who likes to read blogs more than to actual write – any tips?) But I also want to own a house near the sea one time – girls can dream…

    9. Something physical that stands out?
Well I think I would choose my really fair skin. When I was younger I totally hated my skin – extremly sensitive to the sun, every imperfection visible (hello massive eye shadows and acne scars…) a pain to find make-up in my shade… you name it! But in the meantime it’s okay and I’m secretly embracing my vampire complexion – I mean, it’s totally cool right now, to look bloodless, right?

    14. How many siblings do you have?
2 older sisters and 1 older brother, so I’m the baby and always going to be it (which is sweet but also kind of annoying :D ). Love my family to pieces, we had our fights in the past, but we really grew together over the years. you can’t chose family, but you can chose to live happy with them!

    15. How would you describe your style?
French minimalism (or non-existant?) I really need to experiment more, but I have no clue which styles are flattering for me. I mostly stick to skinny (preferable black/grey) and t-shirt/classic blouse.

    22. What’s a beauty rule you preach, but never actually practice?
Getting at least 8 hours of sleep. I’m a real night owl, but also having kind of problems to sleep longer than 8 o’clock (#firstworldstudentproblems). Weekends are at present also not for recovery, but for partying, thanks god I’m only 23, haha.

‘I’m gonna make the rest of my life, the best of my life’

    1. What is one of your biggest dreams?
One of my biggest dreams would be that I would like to make my fulltime job out of my little webshop I now have on Etsy. I love to design my own clothes so it would be really nice if I could turn this hobby into a full time job.

    12. What’s a song you secretly love to blast and belt out when you’re alone?
I started to become a giant fan of Boyce Avenue lately. I really love their songs. I’ve been listening to ‘Dare to believe’ a lot lately. Keep playing that song over and over again.

    14. How many siblings do you have?
I have a “little” brother of 20 years old named Thomas. We used to fight a lot when we were little. But since he’s gotten out of his puberty we do a lot of nice stuff together. I enjoy this a lot!

    15. How would you describe your style?
I have to clothing styles. For my work I have to wear a specific ‘business style’. So no jeans, skirts around knee length, no sneakers. But in my free time I tend to set myself against this dress code. So I’d love to wear sneakers a lot (especially my converse) and I wear shorter skirts and jeans.

    21. What did you want to be when you were little?
When I was little I really wanted to become a vet. One of my parents acquaintances is a vet as a profession. So when I was about 12 years old, I was allowed to walk around with him for an entire day. I loved everything about the job, until he had to cut away a big bump on a dogs leg. I couldn’t watch it and became really nauseous. That’s when I decided that being a vet wasn’t really something I could manage.

    25. What quote/phrase do you live your life by?
You are not fully dressed until you wear a smile.

Ah, I read the question about the songs wrong. It was what song you SECRETLY love to sing. It is not really a secret that I love Boyce Avenue, haha!

Well, the one I secretly love to sing out loud is the song Hoop, liefde en vertrouwen from Jan Smit, I don’t even like his music. But my boyfriend send me this song because the lyrics related to his feelings for me. I thought is was so sweet, that I listened that song a lot.

    Francis Adriana

Love the new website and this post! Here are 5 things about me:
1: Ever since I was a kid I was torn between doing something creative / artistic and doing something scientific. My biggest dream is to combine those two things in one job. As far as clear goals go, I’m a total failure.
4: yup, me and my Ford party do a whopping 500km a week. So far I prevented any crashes, but some people should not be allowed in a vehicle!
7: Laughed my way through The Wolf of Wall Street. Do explain to me why Leo didn’t get an Oscar for this film…
14: proud big sis of the amazingly charismatic and very tall Nate.
18: absolutely! I have been platinum since 2010. I don’t feel the same without my white locks.
